If you’re looking for a rewarding career opportunity with an award-winning company, we’d like to hear from you!  AvalonBay Communities, Inc., a national apartment real estate investment trust (REIT)/property management and development company, is looking for the right candidate to lead the Retail component of our Mixed-Use portfolio.  AvalonBay currently owns ~500,000 square feet of retail space within our 55,000-unit/170 apartment community portfolio.  We currently operate in 7 regional markets in the US and have plans to develop an additional 500,000 square feet of retail space. 

Based in our Alexandria, VA headquarters, this individual will be responsible for partnering/collaborating with internal development, construction, and property management customers to design, manage, and enhance the retail space within AvalonBay.  This will include the successful development, lease-up, and management of retail space in both small-scale neighborhood centers, as well as urban mixed-use developments.  In addition, this position will be responsible for selecting and managing the broker community, defining leasing strategy and negotiating tenant leases, approving signage and landlord work, and establishing, implementing and documenting policies and procedures.   This person must have excellent transactional skills as well as managerial/supervisory experience to direct our 3-person Retail department.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field, 5+ years experience in all aspects of commercial lease-up, in both small-scale neighborhood centers, as well as urban mixed-use developments.  Excellent verbal, written, analytical and presentation skills are also necessary.  Proficiency with Microsoft applications and willingness to travel are a must.  Proficiency with MRI Commercial software is a plus.
